The new Extreme2 SET Plug & Travel gives maximum performance in any terrain – whether on a serpentine road in the Pyrenees, in tough off-road terrain on your ACT trip, or on your Sunday coffee ride. The successor to the popular Extreme shock has exceeded all our expectations in terms of performance and comfort.
When developing the new Extreme2 shock, our main focus was on consistent friction reduction. Thanks to the resulting efficiency and precision, we are now even better able to master the balancing act between road and extreme off-road use. Just as it should be for real adventure motorcycles. Furthermore, the reduced friction also has an extremely positive effect on wear, so that your shock absorber retains its performance after years of extreme use.
The extreme reduction in friction has been achieved, among other things, by the special “low friction” piston bands, which significantly improve the sliding behaviour of the new 46 mm pistons. This significantly refines the response behaviour of the Extreme2 dampers.
Especially for the Extreme2 Plug & Travel suspension we have developed a newly designed electronic spring preload in a space-saving design. This now enables uncomplicated installation without the need to attach the EPA pump externally.
A lot of suspension has the problem of the damper oil heating up excessively when the suspension strut is subjected to constant hard use. The resulting change in viscosity drastically reduces damper performance. If temperatures rise, wear also increases exponentially, which can lead to irreparable failure of the entire component.
To avoid this, the Extreme2 damper has a new reservoir design with more oil volume and better heat dissipation. This means that we can categorically rule out even the smallest drops in performance.
The new damper is rounded off with an extended compression adjustment range at low and high speed. This allows the damping to be adjusted even more precisely to all requirements.
In addition, the Extreme2 shock absorber has all the features of the Extreme1 shock absorber.
The basic setup installed here is designed for riders up to 100 kg plus luggage, but as each set of the Extreme2 is built to your specific requirements, there is a leadtime of 3-4 weeks. A Couple Of Frequently Asked Questions:
What is DDA?
On BMWs DDA stands for Dynamic Damping Adjustment (or Dynamic Damping Assistance). This is a feature of Touratech’s Extreme2 shock absorbers , that allows the suspension’s damping to adjust automatically and in real-time to the riding situation.
Key features of DDA:
- Automatic Adjustment: The system uses a high-performance DDA valve (patented by Tractive) to change the damping characteristics in fractions of a second based on the riding surface and conditions.
- Integration: Aftermarket DDA systems are designed to integrate with the motorcycle’s original control units, allowing the rider to retain the use of the stock handlebar switches and riding modes (e.g., “Rain”, “Road”, “Dynamic”).
- Enhanced Performance: It is designed to provide better stability and handling, particularly for long-distance touring, by ensuring consistent and optimal damping regardless of the load or terrain.
BMW’s factory-installed version of this technology is typically called Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) or DDC (Dynamic Damping Control). The DDA systems are premium aftermarket alternatives that offer enhanced performance and durability, especially for heavy use or off-road conditions.
Can I Fit This Myself?
