Touratech Suspension WTE Extreme - SET for Yamaha Tenere 700 from 2019

The Touratech Suspension World Travel Edition Extreme Set ranks in the absolute premium class of suspension components.

This Extreme Suspension Set for the Yamaha Tenere 700 is perfectly suited to touring and riding with frequent dramatic changes in loading and riding conditions, and the most extreme demands.

The Extreme Set is fitted with a Position Sensitive Damping System (PDS), which utilises a second damping piston to provide hydraulic protection against bottoming out.

Even fully laden with luggage under the most extreme off-road conditions, the bike will not bottom out and shock absorber including cartridge is protected against mechanical overload.

Damping characteristics change depending on the road surface. When riding under most conditions, the shock absorber is comfortably adjusted for a less strenuous ride, before the PDS kicks in for the last portion of the stroke.

Characteristics of the Touratech Suspension Extreme Shock Absorber:

  • The shock absorber body is made of aluminium. This keeps its weight to a minimum.
  • All assemblies and components are designed for intense use on heavy touring motorcycles.
  • Special low-friction seals are fitted. As a result, there is very little wear and the shock absorber has a long service life.
  • Strong stainless steel bushings for the securing bolts are fitted to the spring eye. They make sure the securing bolt is seated firmly with no play even under maximum loads.
  • Floating piston design. The floating piston separates the damping fluids – oil and nitrogen – allowing them to work separately. As a result, the shock absorber response is finer. Precise, high-performance damping even with very high damping frequency (bad roads, dirt tracks). Shock absorber cools better. Minimal restrictions for the shock absorber's fitting position on the motorbike.
  • Hydraulic Extreme preload via an easily accessible, well positioned hand wheel.
  • The damper settings were developed in line with Touratech's experience and requirements. They are based on many miles travelled and experiences gained from use by the Touratech Race Team.
  • Extreme compression damping adjustment always has separate high speed and low speed settings. This allows highly individual compression/rebound adjustment. Perfect adaptability to changing requirements.
  • Separate Extreme external reservoir in the shock absorber's damping assembly. Means shock absorber system cools better when riding. Gives the shock absorber greater resilience and a longer service life.
  • QR barcode on the shock absorber contains individual shock absorber data. Simply scan with a smartphone to access the specific information for the shock absorber. Information on the shock absorber's factory settings is always available. Can be reset if incorrectly adjusted.

Characteristics of the Touratech Suspension Extreme Cartridge Kit:

  • Putting it simply, the Touratech Suspension Cartridge Kit Extreme is a suspension strut for the fork and the absolute top end in terms of suspension technology.
  • The Extreme setup compensates for any volume of luggage, from a rear roll-bag to a loaded luggage system and/or a pillion rider. 
  • Spring preload, compression and rebound can be fully adjusted top-side.
  • The damping oil is contained in a closed cartridge which allows precise dosing of the amount of oil. Thus the Closed Cartridge offers a significantly more refined and pleasant response behaviour of the fork.
  • The finely adjusted damping allows effective and precise suspension settings to match your personal riding style at all times, for all road conditions and intended uses, regardless of motorways/fast roads, country roads, country lanes, offroad sections, long-distance travel with big luggage or a speedy, ambitious driving style.
  • Should exceptionally tough road conditions act on the front wheel, the integrated "Hydraulic Endstop" prevents mechanical impacting of the fork.
  • High damping stability and robustness through use of 35 mm piston.
  • Closed design (Closed Cartridge), hence closed oil cartridge for damping and the oil in the fork is for lubrication only.
  • Damping oil (cartridge) and nitrogen, in a nitrogen accumulator at the base of the cartridge.
  • Extremely refined response behaviour of the fork while providing high durability and stability at the same time.
  • The separation of oil and nitrogen avoids foam formation and no stickslip in the fork.
  • This means reproducible damping performance at all times, even under the most extreme conditions.
  • Prevents the fork from going solid. Each cartridge is fitted with an "Hydraulic endstop" against against impacting.

Technical specifications

Features of the Touratech Suspension Closed Cartridges:

  • The Closed Cartridge is installed into the original fork. This way the fork bridge/handlebar mount, brakes and wheel control and handlebar geometry are retained in full.
  • No additional modifications to the fork are required
  • A Closed Cartridge is an Extreme suspension strut in the fork.
  • Fully adjustable top-side spring preloading (adjustment tool including with delivery) in both fork legs for optimal balance of the motorbike. 20mm via 12 clicks
  • Separately adjustable rebound damping 20 clicks (1 fork leg)
  • Compression damping 20 clicks (1 fork leg) for damping.
  • For precise damping settings at high damping frequency and high load (poor roads, offroad with luggage).

The basic setup fitted here is designed for riders up to 100 kg including luggage.

Modifications are possible for a heavier rider (more than 100 kg) and/or if the bike is usually ridden with a passenger / with luggage. In this case, Touratech individually modify the shock absorber to meet your needs by fitting a spring with a higher spring rate.
