Medium sized adventure bikes used in their right element on true adventures both on and off the road can now enjoy the improved comfort and performance from an Öhlins cartridge kit. Öhlins R&D decided to go for a solution based on the successful Öhlins NIX technology to reach the goal of a cartridge that can deliver both comfort and performance, and go longer than an off-road kit between servicing. The small design of the cartridge kit makes it fit easily in the upside down OE forks most adventures bikes are equipped with today. The kits are easy to install, just pop out the OE kits and install the Öhlins cartridge kits instead.
Thanks to the FKA 110 kit from Öhlins the Honda CRF1000 and CRF1100 Africa Twin now has a fully adjustable front end. Rebound damping is on one leg and compression in the other leg, with adjustable spring preload in both legs. Together with an overall improved damping system, the bike is transformed and can deliver so much more.
Different springs are available for riders individual demands as well as an effective hydraulic stop inside the kit to prevent bottoming. After tests we feel confident this cartridge kit improves the adventure bike both in terms of comfort and overall performance.

K-Tech linear shock springs are manufactured from the highest grade chrome silicone wire, each spring is cold-coiled, heat-treated, pre-set and ground to length.
Phosphate coating is then applied to protect against corrosion and then powder coated before the part number is applied. All springs are manufactured to DIN 2095 grade1.
Linear-rate springs are evenly wound from top to bottom so that the force (road surface bumps and potholes, acceleration and braking) remains the same from the initial input right through to when the springs won’t compress any further whereas progressive springs are wound closer at one end and further apart at the other.
Linear springs give you the ability to fine tune the suspension closer to your specific weight, rather than using progressive springs which will always be a compromise as they are manufactured to work over a much wider weight range.
The K-Tech Suspension R&D team have developed these springs over a period of extensive research and testing on their own CRF1000 Africa Twin, having found the OEM Honda shock springs does not allow for a good sag measurement while still having any usable preload adjustment once the rider is mounted.
The K-Tech linear spring is 10mm longer than the standard OEM Honda spring, giving more initial preload, and by selecting the correct spring rate for your weight, this will enable you to correctly set sag measurement on your CRF1000 / CRF1100 Africa Twin, whilst still having plenty of preload adjustment available.

Nitron are pleased to announce the brand new range of TVT Adjustable Fork Cartridge Kits for the CRF1100 Africa Twin / Adventure Sport.
Developed primarily to compliment and work with Nitron NTR shock upgrades, they offer the same level of improvements in rider control, performance and comfort that have become the trademark of the Nitron product. The system features a large bore 25mm piston which provides significant improvements in performance over the OEM set up and ensures consistency during prolonged periods of use. All vital components are hard anodised with the option to specify ultra-low friction Kashima coating if desired. Developed and tested in conjunction with some of the world’s leading race teams, independent adjustment control of rebound and compression damping is both easy to use and extremely effective.
The damping control system consists of an adjustable compression cartridge for installation into the left fork leg and an adjustable rebound cartridge for the right fork leg. Both offer independent damping and pre-load adjustment via the uniquely styled fork top caps. In addition to this, a key feature of the TVT Fork Cartridge Kit is the third, high speed damping valve incorporated into the compression cartridge. The valve is pre-set to react to high-speed, hard edge bumps which normally unsettle a well damped set up especially when combined with hard braking and cornering forces. The result is a balance of performance, stability and compliance which give very high levels of rider confidence and ultimate control.
All three valve pistons can be quickly and easily removed for re-valving without the need to remove the forks from the bike, keeping workshop time to a minimum and meaning trackside changes and set-up can be done with ease.
In motorsport, SuperBike riders have praised the ability of the TVT cartridges as they have felt confidence increase to new levels and lap times tumble. Probably just as impressive as the on track ability is just how adaptable the Tri-Valve Technology is for road use, giving all levels of rider the confidence to make adjustments to achieve a more usable and more capable bike.

Nitron TVT Adjustable Fork Cartridge Kits offer the same level of improvements in rider control, performance and comfort that have become the trademark of the Nitron product.
The system features a large bore 25mm shimmed piston which provides significant improvements in performance over the OEM set up.
Function
The damping system is divided between each fork leg with the right hand side cartridge controlling the rebound phase and the left hand side compression. This system allows completely independent damping adjustment making setup both simpler and quicker.
Re-valving is also much quicker particularly when a change is only required to one side of the damping curve.
For ease of use all adjustments are made from the top of the fork, preload is adjusted via a 17mm hex with each complete turn of the adjuster resulting in 1mm of additional spring preload from a total of 18 turns. Damping adjustment is adjusted using the supplied tool by turning the 3mm hex in the centre of the fork cap, there should be at least 25 clicks of adjustment. Careful attention to the design of the adjustment system results in not only a broad range of adjustment but the click by click adjustment across the range is very linear making a setup easier.
In addition to the main piston in the compression leg TVT cartridges also employ a third piston which gives a great deal of flexibility when designing the damping curve for a specific application. This piston also utilizes shims in much the same way as the main compression piston but with this design the shim stack is preloaded. During slow to medium speed movements of the fork in compression such as braking or through undulations in the road the damping is created by the main piston. As the pressure in the compression cartridge reaches a certain point the preload on the second piston will be overcome and oil can now flow through the TVT ports reducing overall damping for the higher fork speeds.
The main piston in a TVT fork cartridge can be valved to create firmer damping in the low to mid speed range of compression velocities giving improved brake support and control of weight transfer leading to improved rider confidence. With a single compression piston design this would normally result in unwanted high speed damping forces being generated at higher compression velocities such as square edged bumps and surface irregularities.
On track, professional riders have praised the system describing new found levels of confidence particularly during high speed , hard edge bumps which combined with hard braking and cornering forces would normally unsettle a well damped set up. Likewise on the road this system has allowed new levels of compliance on bumpy poorly surfaced roads.
The TVT valve has also been designed to allow quick and easy re-valving and can be extracted from the fork without having to remove the forks from the bike.
