The Closed Cartridge is installed into the original fork. This way the fork bridge/handlebar mount, brakes and wheel control and handlebar geometry are retained in full.  No additional modifications to the fork are required This Closed Cartridge  is been developed perfectly for touring and riding with frequent and strongly differing loads and riding conditions or extreme requirements.

Its compact design also houses our PDS system. This provides hydraulic protection that prevents bottoming out even while carrying full touring gear in the most extreme off-road conditions. The shock absorber is protected against mechanical overload. Damping characteristics change depending on the road surface. Under most riding conditions, the shock absorber gives a smooth response and is comfortably adjusted for a less strenuous ride.

This shock absorber is perfectly suited to touring and riding with frequent dramatic changes in loading and riding conditions, and the most extreme demands. The Extreme shock absorber is fitted with a position sensitive damping system (PDS), which utilises a second damping piston to provide hydraulic protection against bottoming out. Even fully loaded with luggage under the most extreme off-road conditions, the bike will not bottom out and the shock absorber is protected against mechanical overload. Damping characteristics change depending on the road surface. When riding under most conditions, the shock absorber is comfortably adjusted for a less strenuous ride, before the PDS kicks in for the last portion of the shock absorber stroke.

Progressive fork springs for Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin from 2020 -25mm lowering

Replacement fork springs for lowering the front end by Dutch suspension specialists Hyperpro. This spring set provides you with a practical -25mm reduction in height without worsening the riding characteristics - at the expense of a little ground clearance. These progressive springs have been designed to match the Honda CRF1100 L Africa Twin perfectly, offering a tremendous improvement in response and greater safety in extreme situations than the original fork springs.

Preface

Riding conditions, especially off road, are so varied and influenced by unpredictable environments that suspension and component (seals) manufacturers are traditionally forced to adopt a compromised approach while designing assemblies. This compromise often leads to decreased performance in the quest for durable operation.

The solution

SKF is making its contribution to improve reliability without sacrificing performance and riding feel with Dual Compound Fork Seal kits, which represent a great leap in design and manufacturing technology.

SKF has produced a revolutionary new fork seal kit design with two newly formulated proprietary NBR compounds optimized for specific sealing functions.

The co-molded manufacturing technology allows utilization of these compounds and features completely re-designed lips on the dirt scraper and the oil seal to enhance followability on the shaft and better exclusion for greatly improved protection against external contaminants ①

The new open wound garter spring ② allows mud to flow through the spiral for a stable radial load on the lip to optimize contact pattern to the shaft.

The new metal stamping for both dirt scraper and oil seal provide proper support to the sealing lips for optimal functionality ③.

The proprietary “super low friction” NBR compound is enhanced by the specifically designed lip ④ of the oil seal and has been developed to further reduce the friction and stick-slip under all operating conditions.

Testing

The Dual Compound Fork Seal significantly outperforms the competition and provides further protection improvement versus SKF’s own current product offering. It has better protection against external contamination than other seals. (Water Ingress) Friction and stick-slip remain the benchmark of the fork application (Friction Comparison).
